Pretty Nightgowns

Have been busy over the school holidays, have been organizing and settling into a new house and sewing in between, will hopefully get more sewing done when girls are back at school.

Managed to finish these pretty nightgowns and send them off in the post to a very dear friend for some of our other friends little girls.

This fabric is so beautiful I wish I could have got more, it is so soft.  Just perfect for nightgowns.

Also managed to make this pretty little dress which was for the markets but has since been sold.  Another special little girl,  is going to look so beautiful in this dress.  It is hard to see the detailing in the photo or on the dress because of the pattern on the fabric it has a pleat down the center front.  I love the way this pattern from "Figgys" turned out.

Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy what's left of the holidays.

Frilled Dress

Big E looks so pretty in this beautiful dress, created using a Violette Fields Thread pattern.  Or version is a little shorter, but looks just as good as the long version.  These are now available through custom order in this fabric in pink or green.  Both colours look equally lovely.

Have a great day

2 new firsts

I was so very excited to be accepted as one of the testers for Straight Grains (http://www.straight-grain.com) new Hanami Pattern.  My two firsts were that I have never tested a pattern before and  the second was this was my first dress created from a Straight Grain Pattern.

I recently started purchasing patterns via the internet in the form of PDFS rather than going to the store and purchasing  pre-printed patterns.

I love the idea of supporting smaller artists.  I adore the Straight Grain website, such a creative lady with such wonderful clothing.  My girls love her patterns and that is enough for me.  Head on over to her website to see what other lovely creations the other testers created.  (http://www.straight-grain.com).

I started by printing then reading through the pattern before assembling the pattern pieces.  The instructions were easy to understand, and the pictures made it so easy to follow.  I will be the first to admit that I am no good at reading and following instructions, I am a get in and make it learn as you go kind of girl.  But the instructions in this pattern are so easy to read and follow, it was actually a pleasure to follow them.

This would be a fantastic pattern for any sewing enthusiast, no matter what level of sewing you were at.

I love the fact that this pattern gives you several choices, so you could make a shirt or a dress. With or without a collar and 2 types of sleeves.  So I got my girls to choose what they would like me to make.

They chose a dress, that crossed over a the back with tulip sleeves.

The dress came together quickly in the end, could easily be finished in a few hours if you wanted.  I chose a fabric from my fabric stash a pretty bright purple cotton with white dots.  This was a little thicker that I had originally intended to use but it is what my girls chose. In the end it didn't matter as you cannot tell that it is a thicker fabric.   I cut this pattern out in a size 7 as my girls are tiny for their age.  The pattern was true to size.

To sum it up a wonderful pattern that is easy to follow and create with simple instructions that make it a pleasure to create.

Now to get started on one for my oldest girl.

Have a great day

Its not bedtime

Trying to get little P to model our size 3 flannel nightgown was very tricky.  She was fine when we put it on her then she must have thought we were trying to put her to bed.  We somehow managed to get some cute shots.  She looks very pretty in her nightgown.

Hi There

Hello and welcome to Pepes Petticoat.  We are two Mums that have teamed up to sew pretty and suitable clothes for our girls and their friends.  We focus on clothing from 7 and 15, as there is currently not much around on the market for young girls in the bigger sizes.

My name is Lisa.  I am a mum to 2 beautiful little girls and I am currently working and studying from home.  Lucky right. I have always sewed and created, I majored in Fashion and did a lot with it while in highschool, but then went on to work in IT after school.  I have another crafty blog (emecountrycreations.blogspot.com) where I show what I have been creating and playing with.  I have always sewed and crafted for me and my girls.

My friend Keri and I were discussing the current fashion crisis for young girls, her little girl is in size 10, and we were both looking for something new and exciting to do.  So this brought us here to Pepes Petticoat.  We decided to have a go at creating/sewing the clothing ourselves.

So welcome to the beginning of a very exciting adventure for us.
